Field Trips & Other Cool Stuff

There will be plenty to do out and about in Cocoa Beach. You must register for these events by October 26, and reservations are required for all trips. All trips are free of charge unless noted and will be leaving by carpool from the Hilton Hotel Lobby. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, hat and binoculars. A special thanks to Spacecoast Audubon Society for helping organize these trips.

Thurs., Nov. 1

2 pm - 4 pm

Field trip to Viera Wetlands
Viera Wetlands
offers Egrets, Herons, Ducks, Sand Hill Cranes, American Bald Eagle and much more. Driving tour with carpooling suggested.

5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Poolside Reception with cash bar

8 pm - 10 pm

Movie “Who Killed the Electric Car?”

   

Fri., Nov. 2

7 am - 11:45 am

Field trips:

 

Jetty Park and Canaveral Locks offers not only gulls, terns, pelicans, Black Crowned Night Herons, Wood Storks and more, but also learn about the history of the space program and Brevard County.

Merritt Island NWR offers an amazing driving tour through wetlands, marshes, and fields of grasses and discover the wildlife that inhabits the area. View Scrub Jays, Bald Eagles, ducks, egrets, herons, plover, gulls, terns and much more.

Special Workshop: Community Stewards for Climate Change
Calculating your carbon footprint. Taking steps toward living a carbon neutral life. Engaging your community for change. Audubon’s plan for action.

   

Sat., Nov. 3

7:30 am – 8:30 am

Sunrise walk to Lori Wilson Park offers a great morning walk in one of Cocoa Beach’s greatest resources to migratory warblers. Just a five minute walk from the hotel.

8:30 am - 11:15 am

Solar Energy Center
Visit the state’s energy research institute and experience first hand new and innovative energy solutions to meet Florida’s growing energy needs.

Pine Island offers a great hiking experience through wooded and scrub habitat at the river's edge. Woodland and water birds can be expected on this great trip. While birding, also learn of the Ais Indians that inhabited the area until the early 1700's when their tribe mysteriously disappeared.

2 pm - 6 pm

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING- Followed immediately by Audubon of Florida Board of Directors meeting.

2 pm - 4:30 pm

Field trip:

 

Kayaking Trip around 1,000 Islands/Banana River Lagoon - $20 includes equipment. Pay cash/check directly to Spacecoast kayaking. Trips typically include sights of endangered manatees, dolphin, majestic osprey, great blue herons, brown pelicans, cormorants and many other plants and animals.
