Nestlings
Audubon Center for Birds of Prey
For Ages 2-5 with Parent/guardian
Parents bring out your little nestlings to explore not only
birds of prey but the natural world with age appropriate activities.
Programs are designed for preschoolers ages two to five accompanied
by an adult. Activities will include live birds of prey encounters,
crafts, stories, songs and more.
Nestlings will meet on the second Wednesday
of each month at 10 a.m. The cost is $10.00 for the child
and parent. Contact Lynne to register by phone (407-644-0190)
or via email.
The schedule will be as follows:
April 15: EGGstravaganza
Eggs come in all shapes and sizes and are made by many different
animals. Discover what’s packed into these tiny packages and how
important they are.
May 13: Raptor Babies Abound
Many of our local birds of prey are having babies this time of year.
Learn who might be nesting in your yard and hopefully meet a live raptor
baby.
June 10: Slimy Skins
Frogs, fish and salamanders can feel slippery and slimy to our
fingers! Learn why and how important this is for life in a watery world.
TogetherGreen Volunteer Days
If you missed our kick off event, there are more opportunities
to get involved and build community. TogetherGreen
is a dynamic and innovative Audubon program funded by Toyota
that aims to provide inspiration, leadership and opportunities
that inspire people everywhere to take action at home, in
their communities and beyond to improve the health of our
environment.
From June 2008 through May 2009 Audubon
Center for Birds of Prey will be recruiting new folks and
engaging current volunteers to participate in special projects
designed to improve local urban bird habitats. Projects will
include building and monitoring nest boxes, cleaning the shoreline
around Lake Sybelia and removing invasive, nonnative plants
from our wetland. A complete schedule for events will be available
soon. Let’s work together to build community—bring your neighbors
and friends and gain the experience and thrill of volunteering
for an important program!
All volunteer events will take place at
the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey. Enjoy refreshments and
giveaways after you lend Mother Nature a helping hand. Please
register for these events. To get involved contact: Lynne
via email
or 407-644-0190.
May 31 – 2PM-Lakefront clean up! Audubon Center
for Birds of Prey will be hosting a community volunteer event with Eco-Action
to help troll our lakefront to clean trash on foot and in canoes. Removing
trash from the lakeshore significantly improves wildlife habitat by removing
potential life-threatening dangers to animals. Join us for an afternoon of
fun to volunteer and help build better communities. First 10 folks to sign
up get choice of canoes. Contact Lynne via email or
407-644-0190.
Baby Owl Shower Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 10:00am until 2:00pm
Join us for a day of educational opportunities and activities to celebrate Mother’s day and
spring! Admission to the Center that day is free with a “baby gift” that is used in caring
for these young raptors. Each year we ask for folks to pitch in with in kind donations to
help offset the Center’s increased expenses during baby bird season. Won’t you help? Read
on for our detailed wish list and how to get involved.
